Teaching

The basic fee includes a daily private lesson on your instrument (8 x 30 min), participation and instruction in the orchestra, accompaniment rehearsals with a pianist, and performances in concerts. The course features two orchestras: Sinfonia Piccola d’Iitti and Iitti Sinfonietta, both conducted and coached by conductor Janne Hanhijärvi.

Upon request, private lessons can be extended to 45 minutes for an additional fee.

Coaching in Chamber Music and Ensemble Playing

In addition to individual lessons and orchestra, the course offers the opportunity to receive coaching in chamber music and ensemble playing. Registration is open to pre-existing ensembles or individual students, who will then be formed into groups. Please bring your own chamber music or ensemble material with you!

Listening to others, the skill of playing together, perceiving the composition as a whole, understanding one's role within a group, and developing chamber musical interaction are essential factors in a young musician's journey toward a rewarding hobby or even a professional career.

Timo Koskinen’s Sonata Course for String Players

Timo Koskinen’s sonata course for string players is intended for students participating in the Iitti Music Course as an optional supplementary study (additional fee applies). The course is aimed at advanced students aspiring to become professional musicians.

The course focuses on understanding the score and the symbolism used by composers, experiencing and expressing musical harmonies, and ensemble playing based on the music’s pulse and core character. In addition to sonatas, students may also perform other repertoire composed for strings and piano.

Timo Koskinen:  ”The sonata course reflects its theme each year. Previously, we have worked on subjects such as Beethoven’s sonatas for piano and violin, the repertoire for the Kuopio Violin Competition, French sonatas, and Schubert’s duos. The sonata course offers a delightful selection of art to heighten the senses, as well as an opportunity to compare methods of musical expression developed in different cultural and linguistic regions.”

The basic fee for Koskinen’s course (€120) includes three 45-minute coaching sessions, where Timo Koskinen performs as the pianist with the student, as well as the related course performances. If they wish, students may take additional 45-minute sessions for €35 per session.

Instruction in Baroque violin is also available at the Iitti course, with Terhi Mali and Arja Yurtseven as teachers.
